A phlebotomy technician, or phlebotomist, is a healthcare professional who collects blood samples for medical tests, research, and blood donations by performing venipuncture and capillary drawsKey responsibilities include verifying patient identity, carefully collecting and labeling specimens, processing samples for analysis, maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment, and providing compassionate patient care. This role requires strong fine motor skills, excellent communication, attention to detail, and knowledge of proper specimen handling and safety procedures.  

Phlebotomy Technician Certification Course Outline

Total Duration: ~120–160 hours (can be adapted to 4–8 weeks)
Format: Lecture (40–60 hrs), Lab Practice (40–60 hrs), Clinical Externship (40 hrs minimum)

Completion Requirements

  • Minimum attendance: 85–90%

  • Pass all written exams (≥75%)

  • Demonstrate proficiency in venipuncture & capillary puncture

  • Successful completion of externship log requirements
